San Diego River
bridge

Project Summary

This pair of 7-span pier-to-pier bridges cross Friars road and the San Diego River wash area. Crane and girder access was limited to a causeway that ran the length of the bridge, with one span over the San Diego river, limiting direct access at the span midpoint. Faced with both cost considerations and unique environmental considerations, we created value engineering to install the deck plate for this bridge, removing the need for welding altogether. The resulting bolted connections were less expensive for all parties involved.
