Hell Canyon
bridge

Project Summary

Between Prescott and Ash Fork, Arizona lies a stretch of State Route 89 that crosses the aptly named Hell Canyon, which runs 100 feet deep at its heart. When it came time to replace the over 60-year-old bridge spanning the gap, Olsen Beal took up the task. Built alongside the existing bridge from 1954, this new plate girder bridge is 65 feet longer and 17 feet wider with added strength from a fourth span. The terrain created limited space for crane setup, girder delivery and storage, but we were able to erect some of the girders directly from the delivery trucks which utilized the existing bridge right next door.
